Various things have kept me from tying a fly for about 3 months. For the last two weeks I have sat at my tying bench, stared at it, and gotten up without tying anything.
Has this ever happened to you?
I'm starting to worry...

Hey Alberto, you are not alone. It has happened to me. I don't know what causes it but I sometimes do that when I am between patterns or I have tyed most of the patterns I have on a list I keep. I found a few things to break it. One is to start cleaning or organizing your fly tying area. I usually come across some materials I bought that I forgot about and decide to tye some patterns using the material. It also helps to check the archives here for a pattern that catches your eye. That gives your a pattern to focus on at the bench.
Hang in there!! I with ya!

My biggest fear when I die is that my wife will sell my fly fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it!
Hey Alberto,
Happens to me too. May just need a
little break or a day on the water. If it
doesn't go away soon, try a half dozen of a
favorite pattern. Usually once I get past
the first few flies, I'm good to go. Good
luck. Warm regards, Jim
Never sit down to tie without knowing what you want to tie!
Think about what you want to tie during idle moments like the commute to work, boring meetings, or when you're wife is nattering on
Read one of your favorite fly tying books, or just page through them. You will often find a fly you forgot about that will get you motivated to tie.

I used to have this same problem until I finally swallowed my pride and got myself some tiagra. Now I have no problem performing at the vise.

"tiagra.".....beautiful!
Anyone do what I tried ...keep a folder of "Flies to Ty"....meaning soon or next?
Trouble is I got so far behind it became too full.
My 'to-tie' folder became a drawer, then too large a part of my tying desktop. Now I just keep a list of the next 10 to tie. Right now the two for swaps have leap-frogged to the top of the list.
Maybe you should join a swap or two, then you 'have' to tie.

Fly organization is a problem. I started out with different wheatley boxes, 1 for nymphs, one for wets, one for spey flies, etc.
Then I sat down and made a list of flies that I will use and will work, and then tie a box to match that. There is seasonality to it, but it keeps you from having flies in your box you will not use.
This keeps me down to two boxes that will cover what I need.

That's my suggestion. Join a swap. Have a glass of wine and read an issue or two of Fly Tyer. JGW
