Tiny Crank Bait
I realize that this is a small lure rather than a fly, but since I tie it on my fly-tying vise and fish it with my fly rod, it's really no different than the poppers and other Balsa Baits I make, so I thought I share it here for others that chase warmwater species. This one is a bit different since I usually carve poppers, sliders, and frog patterns. This is a baby LM bass, but I also make them in baby Bluegill. It is a small crankbait that casts fine with my 7wt, but I also suspect that it would work well with one of my UL spinning rigs. I prefer inline hooks for the tiny crankbaits as they make it much easier to safely unhook and release the fish. I embedded a tiny split shot in the belly to help ensure that it rides properly in an upright position (which it does), and digs in rather nicely with the big lip and long nose. I make the lips out of 1/32" thick polycarbonate material that I bought on Amazon.https://gifyu.com/image/SCtBV
