Powder paint jigs

I'm tieng some jig flies for a friend and i need to paint some jigs, im useing PRO-TEC powder paint in candy yellow, i followed the instructions right but they still didnt come out.

first I heated up the jigs with a lighter for about 5-7 seconds, then i dipped the jip in the powder, let it melt on and cool then baked it for 20 min at 350 degrees farenheight.

What did i do wrong?

Steelheader,

First thing you need to do is if the jigs have been sitting around you need to dip them in vinagar and rinse in water and put on paper towel to dry. This gets rid of oily fingerprints and anything else they've been against. Don't use a lighter.

Go to the dollar store and get a three pack of cheap aluminum foil bread pans.

Use a hand paper punch and punch holes around the lid and hang the jigs in the holes and heat in the oven, then dip in the powder.

When all done dipping put them back into the oven for the 15-20 minute bake to harden.

I switched to the Jann's Powder paint (janns Netcraft) a little cheaper and seems to be easier to work with.

thanks fatman, ill try it. And what didnt work on the first bach was the colour didnt come out right and it wasnt evenly coated.

It takes a few to know how long to leave them in the powder if the jigs are too cool for the powder to take etc.

I use the vinegar trick even when painting by brush as the paint takes better.
