I'm tying up a bunch of these little guys for the spring season here in Central Florida. I use an 8mm cork ball which is usually used in carp fishing in Europe. I put a coat of UV nail polish on the cork to seal it and give it some color and used a bit of mink fur for the tail and some Crystal Chenille for the body but you can use whatever materials you have on hand. These are not poppers, but rather a rocking bobber-like movement. They sit with their tail down looking a bit like a small baitfish gasping at the surface. The slightest movement of the line causes them to rock forward and tilt back in an action that seems to drive the fish crazy. Great for big Bluegill but don't be surprised if you find a decent-sized bass taking it either. I saw a similar type "popper" in an old Herter's book on fly patterns and altered a bit to suit my tastes. I don't remember what it was called but I just call it a Bobber-head popper.
