    Default Annual Fishing Contest Operations

The company I work for is considering an annual fishing contest for the employees who fish throughout the year. Since we have not done this before, I was wondering if any of you have some experience and can provide some pointers on how to do this. The employees fish various methods (fly, spinning, etc)and for numerous species of fish.

How and what is needed to register a catch for both fish kept and catch and release situations?(size, weight, a picture, other?)

How does one handle different species of fish? Or do you differenciate based on fishing methods such as fly versus spinning, etc?

Assuming there maybe different categories of catches, how are prizes awarded? Is there a first, second and third place prize for each category?

Any other feedback and suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hey Bob,

I've been involved in similar situations. The first thing we realized was
that it was a lot more about getting to know
your co-workers better and spend some fun
time together. We went for lots of prizes,
gag prizes, and lots of fun interaction with
each other. It's a situation that can make
a "Billy Bass" singing mount a source of
    much pride.*G* A bar-b-que in conjuntion
with the awards ceremony was always a big
hit. Your situation may be entirely
different but ours was always a fun time
for everyone involved. Warm regards, Jim

    Bob,

I haven't organized contest, but fish-ins. We oriented it towards families and new comers.

We were 100% ff though, so that was easier. Mixing gear would make for a difficult "contest".

We had prizes at my old activities, but not competitive. Gag prizes, participation prizes, door prizes etc.

Do you want families or just hard cores?
If the company is involved, do they want an activity, a competition or a "bonding" thing??

Good luck. It can be a very nice experience spending some time with the co-workers outside of the office.

You should read Dave Micus' articles on holding your own Fishing Tournament - very good information - he has it all worked out.
