Thread: Hot Diggity Dog

    Default Hot Diggity Dog

I've been swamped at work for the past two months with no time to do much of anything let alone tie. I did have a few minutes a couple night ago and figured I might as well have some fun with it. I tied this fly to match the Frankfurterus Weinerii hatch that occurs during the backyard BBQs of summer. Usually served down and across to lazy gulpers posted up in feeding lanes. Hope you guys enjoy this one!

    Hot Dog:
    Hook: Firehole 718, size 14
    Thread: UTC, Red 70d
    Weiner: 100% Grass-fed, Non-GMO Micro Chenille, Red
Bun: Whole wheat Craft Foam, Tan 2mm, toasted gently with a lighter
Special Sauce: Gorilla Glue (Don't want the bun slipping off the dog or vice versa)
Glad I can whip finish because I sure as hell can't double haul...

Nice. I can see that working as a pan fish fly or possibly carp. What's the roll made from?

It's just two little pieces of 2mm craft foam, about the length of the hook shank and just slightly narrower than the hook gap. I rounded the ends with my scissors and then used a lighter to singe the edges to round them even more (and give it that nice toasty brown color). Then you just super glue them to the sides of the hook in as bun-like of a fashion as you can.

No condimnets, yet. Figured it'd be like introducing a new food to a toddler (I have a 1yo at home); start bland then work into bolder flavors.
