Reminds me of fishing with my brother (in law, but we're closer buddies with each other than with our "born" siblings).

We were fishing for Bluegill one time in the mid 1980s in early spring at a small lake in Oklahoma where trout had apparently been stocked for fall and winter fishing.

All we were catching early were 10 to 12 inch Bass (which are not the opposite of fun on a 3 or 4 weight) and then he caught a 12 inch stocker Rainbow.
He got a disgusted look on his face and muttered out loud "damn trash fish!" We laughed a long time after that and I still laugh about that decades later. Guess it's all about what you're expecting or hoping for.

We've NEVER had a bad time fishing together.
