    Default Quills for Perdigon Nymph

Been getting into tying Perdigon nymphs and want to know what favorite quills (peacock, rooster, synthetic, etc.) are you using. I know one can practically use anything but I like the striped segmented look of certain natural quills.

    Thanks

There are some neat, more hardy artificial quills that I have used for quill bodies.

I think the key success factor with Perdigons is their fast sink rate, so I keep mine pretty simple. My favorite is a body from Gutermann rainbow black metalic thread with a fluorescent orange hot spot and gold bead(Gutermann thread is from the craft / sewing store). I also tie the same body with a fluorescent yellow hot spot and black nickel bead for a rough peeking caddis imitation.

Not a fancy segmented quill look, but both have been very effective fish catchers for me. I frequently trail my Perdigons with a more natural looking nymph that imiates the prevailing hatch -- ie, a little baetis nymph or midge larva at this time of year.

Would you name some particular quill material that you prefer for this type of fly? Thank you and much appreciated.

    Wealth of options HERE:

You might want to check out some of Lucian Vasies' ideas on Perdigons:
