On all ?Compara? patterns, there can be a tendency for the ?wing? to tend to lean forward over time.

There are a couple ways to prevent this from happening.

I have found this to be the best way to prevent this:

I tie in two separate clumps of deer hair at the thorax.....in opposing directions. This has the two ?melded? wings in tension against each other. It works well.

Great idea, Byron. My technique- not original- is to tie in one clump, but then separate about 1/3, wrap thread through the "split", then do it again with the next 1/3. Finish off with a few tight turns against the base. Takes way more time to describe it than to do it! But I want to try your technique, too.

    Thanks for both tips.

Rick. That was Craig Matthews’ method of helping maintain the vertical positioning he came up with a number of years ago, which helped.
Believe it or not, this method works better as there is constant equal pressure in both directions, this lasting nearly forever.
