    Default Pig Boats

I tied up some updated versions of the Calcasieu Pig Boat yesterday.

Cool! - what is the head you used? Looks like some squirmy leggy stuff also.
    Nice ties.

    Thanks, Mike,
A built up thread head coated with UV resin.
I discovered a long time ago the "squirmy leggy stuff" was actually what they call spinner bait skirt layers used in making spinner baits on the dark side, and found that they had more and better colors in lure making catalogs and much cheaper. On smaller ones I still use the skirt layers, but on these, they're tied on 3/0 hooks, I used a full spinner bait skirt which I brought from a catalog already made. Once I finish the underbody, I can just slide it on and glue it in place, then build up the thread head in front of it.

Really nicely done! Really like the bluegill one. To get the orange on half of the head, did you just apply orange marker between layers of resin?

I use white thread to build the "head". On this one I just colored the thread if I'm not mistaken. On one I did yesterday, I colored the thread, but the head was rounder and thicker than the one I posted, so I did use both and olive and orange marker on the last layer of the UV resin. I then used an ultra thin UV resin to seal the color.
