Default Lawson Brown Drake Emerger SBS

Based on a pic from the Henry’s Fork Angler site. A few alterations in materials, a bit fuller-winged than that one and I’m not crazy about my choice in thread color (which switched during the tying process); notional sequence but with the materials at hand, it seemed logical.

    hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
    thread - Danville 6/0 tan/MFC 8/0 sand
    rib - small wire copper
abdomen - dubbing yellowish tan (bleached Aussie possum)
thorax - Ice Dub Hare?s Ear Tan
    shellback/tail - shmootz from pheasant rump (marabou-like)
wing - Congo Hair baitfish grey
    hackle - partridge

    Part 1

Mash barb/start thread; tie in rib and wrap to bend

Dub thread/dub abdomen to 2/3 mark

Dub thread/dub thorax to 3/4 mark

Measure (gap width past bend) pheasant shmootz; tie in/trim

Rib body; helicopter end/cover with thread

    Part 2

Tie in a clump of CH (note thread change; next time I?ll tie it with dark brown); fold and wrap back

Trim wing (halfway to tips of tail)

    Prep partridge

Tie in forward by tip, dull side facing out

Fold partridge back, tie down, locking feather in place

Wrap partridge, stroking fibers back; tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

    Regards,
    Scott

I'm going to change the materials a bit for a green drake pattern. Thanks, Scott.

    Scott,
I've never used Congo Hair. Is it a Poly material with good bouncy characteristic? Who sells it?

It’s a polypropylene yarn, like EP Fibers (at 1/3 the cost), Widow’s Web, etc. Flytyer’s Dungeon sells it; they have a very nice color selection. I like it for wings on dries and emergers; seems to be hydrophobic, to a point. I dose it with floatant; after fishing it for a while a couple false casts shake out what water clings to it.
