    Default .015 lead bulk spool

Does anyone know if the .015 lead wrap comes in a bulk spool? When I google it I get a lot of responses that point to soldering wire made of lead and tin. I have never used anything other than the lead wrap that can be purchased in a fly shop. Is the soldering wire a good substitute? Is it brittle or can it be wrapped effectively on a hook? I would like to get at least a half lb spool.

    Thanks
    Greg

Greg - Bob Marriott sells 1# spools of lead wire in a number of different diameters, including .015 diameter. John

In the good old days it was sold as fuse wire and available in every hardware store...

John, I have been using a roll of electrical solder for weight 20 + years. Haven't used it up yet. It performs like the fly shop lead weight. I'm sure there is some difference in the weight but I can't tell it. It may be hard to find lead/tin solder now.

Thanks gentleman. If soldering wire will work that may be my best option. Costs abot 40% less than solid lead wire. If the weight is comparable it will work. I have never tied with soldering wire and my big concern is if it would break easily while wrapping around a hook. Thanks again for your replies.

Would not use the flux core solder, can?t see why the solid core solder wire won?t work fine.

    Thank you Dave.
I've ordered a 1 lb spool which I think is the equivalent to either 16 or 32 of the lead wire spools in the fly tying section.
Thank y'all for all the input.
