In my experience colour or pattern are both second in smallie success to movement. Hence zonkers/rabbit strips, marabou/ostrich bunches, rubber legs, flashabou/angel hair, and beadheads (if the water is deep enough) are all ingredients that should be considered. Most of the patterns metioned include them. I am just saying don't get stuck on specific patterns but think 'wiggle, tingle, tremble'. I have had success with careful presentation and teasing of fish, but at other times I have stripped as fast a possible to better efect. Most patterns should be about 2.5" long according to In-Fisherman mag. Good luck.
