    Default Bluegill head stander fly

I've been messing around with micro-jig flies and decided to tie an imitation baby Bluegill. This is tied on a size 4 Sabre jig hook with a non-lead BB sized split shot crimped and glued to the jig hook. The tail is a bit of fur with a couple of strands of copper colored crystal flash. The body is a dubbing brush made from synthetic fibers and the collar is a red and black hackle feather. I like to file off a bit of the split shot to give it a flat bottom which allows the fly to rest in the nose down position when at rest. This fly casts easily with my five wt and should be a great producer this spring. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all.

Thanks Greg. I'm going to tie up about a dozen in the next few days and give them a try. We're expected to hit 70 degrees next week. I'll let you know how it works out, even if it is winter fishing.

This style of "on its head" fly is also used for carp flies.

Funny you should mention that. I am playing around with a crawfish pattern on these same jig heads. I'll post a photo when I have one to show.
