Thread: my furled leader formulas - good or bad?

    Default my furled leader formulas - good or bad?

    After a little bit of planning, I came up with the following formulas, please correct me if necessary:
    For 0-4wt line:

    lenght: 114" (289 centimeters)
    peg distances: 32" 48" 62" 74" 88" 100" 114"
    Strands: 18-12-6-3

    lenght: 88" (220 cm)
    peg distances: 32" 48" 62" 74" 88"
    Strands: 11-6-3

    lenght: 66" (167 cm)
    peg distances: 24" 36" 46.5" 55.5" 66"
    strands: 11-6-3

    for leaders ment for 4-8 wt lines, I chosed the following numbers of strands:
    lenght: 114" (289 centimeters)
    22-14-6-3 strands
    lenght: 88" (220 cm)
    18-12-5
    lenght: 66" (167 cm)
    18-12-5

    Please advise me. Thanks

    Hi,

    Love to give you an opinion, but its winter on my waters. The rivers and ponds iare a bit frozen yet where I fish, and, of course, the proof is in the performance on the water.

    Why not make them and let us know what you think?

    Here is my formula I use for Furled Leader Calculations.. I worked out your 1st leader, and see how using your data, how it differs.
    My formula creates a continuous progressively tapering leader at a uniform reduction of 55% of material mass (weight).

    Total Length: 114" (289 centimeters)
    peg distances: 32" 48" 62" 74" 88" 100" 114"
    Strands: 18-12-6-3
    36 30 24 18 12 9 6
    L1 = 1.00 (100%)
    L2 = 1.00 X 0.55 X 36/30 = 0.55 X 1.2 = 0.6666 (66% OF L1)
    L3 = 0.6666 X 0.55 X 30/24 = 0.3666 X 1.25 = 0.4582 (45.82% OF L1)
    L4 = 0.4582 X 0.55 X 24/18 = 0.2520 X 1.3333 = 0.3360 (33.60% OF L1)
    L5 = 0.3360 X 0.55 X 18/12 = 0.1848 X 1.5000 = 0.2772 (27.72% OF L1)
    L6 = 0.2772 X 0.55 X 12/9 = 0.1525 X 1.3333 = 0.2033 (20.33 OF L1)
    L7 = .2033 X 0.55 X 9/6 = 0.1118 X 1.5000 = 0.1677 (16.77% OF L1)

    1.00 + 0.6666+ 0.4582 + 0.3360 + 0.2772 + 0.2033 + 0.1667 = 3.108(Total Length ratio L1)

    114?/3.1080 = 36.6795 (37?)

    L1 = 37?
    L2 = 24? (61")
    L3 = 17? (78")
    L4 = 12? (90")
    L5 = 10? (100")
    L6 = 7? (107")
    L7 = 7? (114?)

    Peg Distances: 26? 43? 55? 72? 88?
    Strands: 18-12-5

    Length: 66" (167 cm)
    Peg Distances: 20? 33? 42? 54? 66?

    If you chart your peg length on graph paper, and compare them to my peg length, you will see than mine are a smooth downward curve, while yours will most likely be looking like a graph of the stock market closing numbers.
