Using a Nor-Vise and Bobbin I have come to love up-eye hooks. I use the secondary post often to hold the thread and the up eyes hold the thread without a half-hitch. With down eyes the thread is shed unless that hitch is thrown.
I have fished many different makes and models of hooks over the decades of fishing and guiding and have to say the many up eye models are my favorites for almost every purpose. The last thing I would accuse them of is creating a hook setting problem.
