    Default Extended Body Tip

I've been tying some "fancy flies" for a trip to Penns Creek and the Eastern Green Drake hatch. I've filled my fly box with good "guide flies" and am now making some pretty, extended-body green drake spinners using a needle to build up a body out of dubbing. One problem, when you try to slide the body off the needle, its often destroyed in the process. New trick, "grease" the needle with dubbing wax before tying each body. Works like a charm.

Another tip for making extended abdomens is to use 7x mono to build your body around. Once complete trim the mono at the butt end tight and add a touch of varnish, leave enough mono at the thorax end to tie to the hook shank. I usually press the mono I am going to tie in between my molars to provide a little more hold. If you string a length of mono tight between two vices (or similar) you can tie a number of abdomens in one hit.

This is a scaled down version of a technique I saw in Bob Popovics book Pop Fleyes, where he makes extended bodies for squid.
