Thread: Dai Riki hooks no longer available?

  1. #1

Default Dai Riki hooks no longer available?

I was going to order some more Dai Riki #135 scud hooks from Blue Quill Angler this morning, but they did not show this hook on their website. I have been ordering them from BQA for several years now, since ScottP showed them as one of his preferred hooks. I sent them an email about it and they responded:

"Unfortunately as far as we know, Dai-Riki is going to shut down. We have been trying to restock our hooks for about 6 months with no luck."

I really liked these hooks, since they were high quality and not expensive.
Looks like I will need to find another brand. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Ted

I recommend you look at fireholeoutdoors.com. Their number 321 scud hook comes in sizes 10-18, standard length, and barbless with a 1X gape. They are package in a quantity of 50 for about ten bucks. Check it out. Top quality hook. I like them.

    Ted,

I?ve been real happy with some hooks I found on EBay - Wholesale Fly Company Model 11 ($8.95/100).

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/100-Fly-Tyi...ss!20147!US!-1

None of the fish I lost this summer could be blamed on hook failure; angler incompetence yes, but not bad iron.

    Scott

Agree w ScottP. Wouldn't surprise me if hooks will discontinue or price will jump due to trade wars

Thanks for the recommendations of Firehole Sticks and Wholesale Fly Company. I have bought some Firehole Sticks on sale before and really like their hooks. I am going to try the Wholesale Fly Company hooks, due to the price difference, and see how they compare.

    Thanks,
    Ted

Thanks, I looked there early on. They show that they have the #135 hooks, but only in sizes 6, 10, and 22. This seems to be a pattern with many sellers. They have a few of the smallest and largest sizes, but are sold out of the popular 14 to 20 sizes.

    Thanks,
    Ted

If you don't want to use eBay, you can find Wholesale Fly Company direct at http://www.wholesaleflycompany.com/

I haven't purchased there yet, but I've heard others recommend them and they do have good prices and selection for hooks and beads.
