    Default Steelhead/Salmon Hook

I bought some Daiichi x510 hooks. It's a nice hook but I can get a bead on many of them because of the bend. I like to tie some with beads and some without. Just looking for some other hooks to use. Ideas appreciated.
    Thanks

just a guess but have you tried a slotted bead?

try turning the bead around so the larger hole is towards the hook eye

try the next size larger bead

you could crimp on a split shot behing the eye if its for weighting the fly

    Bruce,

I'd try reversing the bead, like Norm suggested. When I used to use Tiemco 200's that's what I had to do to get around their tight bend.

You didn't specify the hook size you were using, but you might take a look at the Allen MP002 (3xs/3xHeavy/barbed) or the MP003BL (barbless/standard wire). On a size #6 of the latter i can get some of my 3.0 (7/64") beads and all larger size beads on without trouble. I have not used the barbed version. These hooks are designed for carp, etc., and I believe the barbless version would suffice for Steelhead. I'm sure the barbed version would (and the barb could be smashed down).

I've bought some of the same hooks, to tie up some Steelhead Candy. Had the same issue, couldn't get my beads around the bend. I think I ended up going to a different hook; I'll have to check. I want to get some slotted beads so I can go ahead and use those hooks.

I'm using a size 10 hook. I think it's a great hook, but my beads keeping getting stuck.
