Thread: dying pheasant

    Default dying pheasant

Looking for advice of dying some pheasant tails. I tried using rit die but all it does is kinda tint it a little. So i was wandering what kind of dye to purchase so I can get those nice bold colors like wapsi does. A friend told me to look for a dye called Venard but can't find it on the web.
I found veniard dye speeling was just wrong but was wandering if there is any other dye's out there.

Venyard dye is available from Kauffman's in Oregon and Hunters Angling in the northeast. Venyard is a feather dye, a little expensive and powerful. I also use rit dyes. Dont take the water over 150 degrees and watch how much vinegar you use. If you boil the skin the feathers will fall out.
    Good luck,

Dark materials will never give you bright, bold colors unless you find a way to lighten them first.
