Arai tackle company Japan
Hello...
Does anyone know the history of this company? Just got a spin/fly split cane combo from someone and can't find ANY info.
I DID discover that these rods were aimed towards U.S. servicemen serving overseas.
Anything would be appreciated.

I have no idea if it is the same company, but my brother who was stationed in Japan in the 50s brought me a cane fly rod home from there. That was the first fly rod I ever had and it is long gone. I do remember it came in a bosom wood case with two tips and assorted cheap looking flies. I was just a kid and broke the first tip after a few trips to the farm pond. Caught the fly in a willow tree. However, I do remember catching many blue gills with that thing. Wish I knew what happened to it.

Way back in '59 a Navy friend sent me a Cane rod, reel, line leader and flies for $10.00
I caught my first trout in Germany with it. I think the packers who sent my things home from Germany liked it more than I did because I never saw it again.

As I remember, it cost less than $4, new
However, I do have one that I actually use. It was my father's orginally
It's only 8' 6", not a 9 footer like most of them, and I've since rebuilt it
It's a bit heavy, but a pleasure to cast
