I've always done well using big wets or small streamers...Coachmans, BND's....that type of stuff.

    I like a size 14 Woolly Bugger..
    Dark yellow tail
    Dark green Chenille.
    Yellow hackle.
    Very little Lead.

The hook is a Mustad 9671 wet nymph hook.
This fly works good on Trout,Bass,Perch,Blue gill.

Good luck on your Crappie fishing.

What little of it we do, we like to toss a small surfcandie or a #8 or #10 bug colored woolybugger. Sometimes a white/flash woolybugger gets used in place of the surfcandie.
Do you find that "slow" seems good usually?......whatever bug.

When they are spawning,in the shallows,I cant believe you wouldnt use a surface fly.
I tye up white deer hair bass bugs,#8 and 10's,usually with a black or red stripe.Simple ones, big in the front so they pop a little, tapered down to a hackle collar in front of the short hackle tip tail. CJ

very small clousers. however last year I caught more on a Hare n Copper than anything else by a long, long shot. I have no clue why. Size 10 wet fly hook with a little lead under the dubbing. Must have been some shrimpy things in the waters. I'm going this weekend with plenty of both in the Altoids can. JGW

Hare's Ears and PTNs in both traditional dressings and olive did the trick last weekend. Crappies were definitely in here in Chicago.

I hang 'em about 12" under a palsa indicator and give them a little action on the retrieve.
