You are right the bobbin that we were looking for is the gudebrod bobbin. There is a picture of it on page 18 of the book "The Art of Fly Tying" of the Hunting and Fishing Library series.

It was just a guess because I have several of those bobbins myself. Never liked the design. Not sure how it loses tension though. I think it was an idea that fell flat.
