hello bear-Kodiak,
If I am not mistaken or not remembering correctly, I believe that AK customized his wiss scissors himself by adding a thick upholstery needle to the scissors.
I believe that you may locate the wiss scissors at any knitting or fabric shop such as Joanne's. I never saw those scissors available in any of the flyshops I have patronized. However you might look through THE FLYSHOP's (Calif.) and FEATHERCRAFT's catalogs to see if they carry them. Good luck in your search.

Yep, he did. I modified my own by adding a needle. I just drilled a small hole, inserted the upholstery needle, and epoxied it. It's still there and has been so for over 10 years.

Al Beatty website has the scissors you can modify. http://btsflyfishing.com/catalog/BeattyVisesTools.htm If I recall one of AK's books shows how to make the modifications. I think it's Production Fly Tying. I'll see if I can locate the book and confirm.
