Nice Scott, I can see using some different colors. Are there any options to getting the squirrel hair besides using the Pettijean Magic Tool?
    Thanks,

The clamps that hold paper. Can't think of name.

A bulldog clip (I think that's what Rick suggested) would work. The Magic Clip is nice because you can see thru it; makes it easier to determine length of material going into the loop.

Holy #&*$(#($*& if you tied that basic style of fly with a deep orange yarn body and fished it damp it would slaughter fish during the Salmonfly hatch. This is not a guess. We fish Parks' Salmonflies wet all the time and they're not even intended to be fished that way, and they're not very different from that.

Also, no real reason for the clip if you don't have one. You could tie it by tying the hair facing forward over the eye using the technique I cover in my Youtube video about tying soft hackles with larger feathers. It probably wouldn't move quite as well and the head might be bigger, but it would work.

you can also use zonker strips and wrap them as you would hackle. I use pine squirrel micro strips. the body hair is not as stiff as the tail hair so it undulates a little better in the water. a good example of this style of tying , is a pattern listed on this site. its called a pine squirrel cheater. I toned it down a little by only using a turn and a half of the zonker strip at the head. the rest of the body is loop dubbed.
