I'm not at all certain what genus of moth these are but for three days they were quite prevalent over and around Idaho?s north fork of the Clearwater river and Kelly creek areas, most heavily just before and right around dusk. I mention it because recently Scott had created a SBS post for a foam and deer hair spent wing moth that I thought would be a fun pattern to tie and try on my trip out west. It must have been fate. I can't remember the last time I had such enjoyable non-stop dry fly fishing action. Although the biggest fish of many was just shy of 18" with most nearer to 12", the cutthroat absolutely loved them and they showed it with continual and aggressive takes. The real spent moths must have been very tasty. The tie proved to be quite durable and floated exceptionally well in rough water. So glad I saw the post and decided to try them. Thanks Scott!
