    Default East Side Westslopes TR

Time to poke the flanks of the Bob Marshall and see if I could pound up some of those stupid cutts. Heading east, lots of smoke from the fires down south

thru the pass it's a little clearer, but not much

the Rockies are out there somewhere

    lots of wheat and hay

and suddenly, I've driven thru a wormhole and came out in South Dakota (on the drive back, the turnoff was jammed with cars)

we got back 6 weeks ago and have had a total of 15 minutes rain; things are a little better on this side, but still real dry

    heading in

a good place to start; never catch lots of fish in this river but the ones I get are usually nice sized

it's usually good for at least a rise from a nice one but only managed a little guy

takes a bit of wading to get from one hole to the next

but when you find one the results can be worth it

    pretty country

    pretty water

some bugs; the fish aren't usually super selective although they got a bit picky in the evening on one pool when some caddis were coming off

    couldn't find the former tenant

a bit further up and it's into the burn (2003?)

the fork's a bit narrower than the main stem, but still nice water in spots; turned a nice one up at the head of the pool but missed the connection

    heading back to camp

next morning and it's a bit of a different look (other campers couldn't believe I was happy to see rain)

headed back up to where I'd finished the previous evening

and got the one (I think) that I'd turned the evening before

back to the main stem for a few hours; only managed one more fish but it was a nice one

poked around a bit on another fork, but time was running a bit short and the water was underwhelming

time to hit the blacktop and head for home
