Easy enough to transition the pattern to foam; integrating the head into the initial steps saves a bit of time and thread wraps. Tied Rubenesque here; body thickness/shape determined by foam width/tension while wrapping.


hook - Dai Riki 135 #8
thread - UTC 140 fluoro orange
core - 20 lb mono
tail - moose body hair
abdomen/head - 1mm foam orange
thorax - peacock herl
hackle - rusty dun
wing - elk hair


Part 1

put a loop in the mono; mash barb, start thread, tie in mono






clean, stack, measure (2x hook length) a clump of moose body hair; tie in/trim butts, hook the loop onto the gallows






wrap moose around the core






tie in foam strip over the eye; fold and tie down, forming head

Part 2

brush underbody with Super Glue




take a turn on the hook, then wrap up the core; brush on a bit more glue and wrap back down, tie off/trim






re-set hook angle, trim mono




tie in peacock; wrap thorax, tie off/ trim






tie in hackle; wrap thru thorax, tie off/ trim

Part 3

clean, stack, measure (tips to tail) a clump of elk hair; tie in, taking wraps thru the butts, pushing them against the head






whip finish, SHHAN, trim butts, trim out hackle underneath (looks like the point could use a little filing)
