If you're out west in late summer, the spruce moth emergence can lead to some outstanding dry fly action. Doug Korn's pattern is a great one; I just added a little foam to help it keep it's head above water.


hook ? Dai Riki 135 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
core - 10lb mono
body ? 1mm foam tan
hackle - barred cream
wing - hen pheasant

Part 1

put a loop in the end of the mono




mash barb, start thread; tie in mono at point above point




tie in foam strip (1/3 gap width)




hook loop onto the gallows, brush mono with Super Glue, wrap up the core (hook length), brush with more glue and wrap back to base; tie off/trim, trim mono








tie in hackle, wrap, tie off/trim; trim flat on top
