The first time I saw this technique was several years ago in John Barr's book about tying his Copper John. It works OK with the wire but is much more valuable when trying to keep the multi-strand materials together. It works.

I first saw the technique about a year ago on some other video. I thought it was posted to this forum, but it may have been elsewhere. I've been using the technique ever since I saw it, and it works great! I can't believe that it took me 50 years of tying before ever seeing it. I have to think it's been known about for years and everyone thought it was so obvious that it wasn't worth mentioning.
