    Default Herter's Bastard Midge SBS

Similar to a Lady McConnell. Change in tying sequence from the vid I saw, since, just like with Humpies, I can never get the right distance when folding the deer hair tips over.

    hook ? Dai Riki 305 #18
    thread - Danville 6/0 red
    tail ? mallard flank
    body ? tying thread
    shellback/feelers ? deer hair bleached
hackle ? ?pseudo cree? (no kidding, that?s what it?s called: pretty much a brown cast grizzly)

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread, wrap to point above barb

measure (shank length) some mallard flank fibers; tie in/trim

clean, stack, measure (shank length) some deer hair; tie in, wrap butts to tail

give a slight twist to the butts, pull forward, tie down/trim

Great tie, as always, Scott. What do you think about using a poly yarn - such as Congo Hair, EP fibers, Widow's Web, etc. - instead of deer hair?

    Joe,

That would probably work just fine; be a bit more durable, too.
