    Default Johnson's Mimic May SBS

Arkansas guide Chad Johnson's take on the cross-wrapped deer hair body style, similar to a number of Michigan patterns (Galloup?s Found Link, Lacey Stephan, Kraimer's Tilt-Shoot) with addition of a CdC thorax. Tied here as a March Brown; change color/size to suit your needs.

    hook ? Mustad 94840 #12
    thread ? Uni 6/0 camel
tail ? barred cream hackle stems
    rib - tying thread
    abdomen - deer hair
    thorax ? CdC dun
    wing - deer hair
    hackle ? grizzly dyed brown

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark, wrap to point above barb, create bump

strip fibers off 2 hackles, trim tips, measure (shank length); tie in/trim

clean, stack, measure (tips gap width past bend) a clump of deer hair; trim to length, tie in with 2 soft loops, allowing hair to circle shank, tighten

spiral wrap to point above barb; cross-wrap forward, return to 2/3 mark

clean, stack, measure (tips to bend) another clump of deer hair; trim to length, tie in

    Part 2

create thread loop behind wing, capture CdC (3 low grade feathers used here) in clip; trim stem, insert in loop, spin

stroke fibers back, wrap behind and in front of wing; tie off/trim

tie in (folded) hackle by tip; stroke fibers back, wrap, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

    trim out hackle underneath
