Just as an aside, I talked to the folks at Beartooth, on the Madison, who showed me how to tie one of their favorite flies, and they called it an olive, but it was tied with purple appearing flashy dubbing. But, I said, it's purple! To which they replied, it looks olive to the fish. Very strange.

Just saw a post on Facebook by David McPhail of a bunch of beautiful flies. When I looked closely, I seemed to see the effects of a few sprigs of UV Pearl icE type dubbing. I asked him in the comment section and he said it did have UV material.

I never did very well on opening day of trout season got the Line wet but never caught anything. Some years ago I found a recipe for a fly on this site the SHWAPF, swept hackle wingless all purpose fly or something like that. I made that fly with purple buck tail and blue mylar body. I fished it as a streamer and my opening day luck changed. I fish it in feeder streams that run clear and now catch fish on the season opener in the same spots that I had never caught fish on anything else in the early season. I use that pattern in different colors and fish it dry and wet and as a streamer depending. But purple is the way to go for the season opener.
