A vintage Kiwi pattern.


hook - Mustad 9671 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - mallard flank over red hackle fibers
rib - oval tinsel silver
body - chenille white
hackle - red
wing - mallard flank
throat - mallard flank (not standard but looked cool in a pic I saw so I added it)

Part 1

mash barb, start thread




measure (gap width past bend) some hackle fibers; tie in






tie some mallard flank over top of the hackle fibers






tie in tinsel




strip end off chenille, tie in, wrap to within 1 eye width; tie off/trim

Part 2

rib with tinsel; tie off/trim




tie in (folded) hackle by tip; wrap, tie off/trim






stroke fibers down/back, cover with thread






measure (tips to tail) a mallard flank feather; twist between thumb/forefinger to streamline, tie in/trim

tie in throat (tips even with hackle); tie off/trim
