    Default Wood Special SBS



    A vintage New England brookie streamer.


    hook - Mustad 79580 #6
    thread - Danville 6/0 black
    tail - golden pheasant tippet
    rib - small tinsel silver
    body - chenille fluoro orange
    wing - mallard flank (or woodduck)
    hackle - grizzly

    Part 1

    mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend




    prep gp, measure (gap width past bend), tie in








    tie in rib




    tie in chenille, wrap forward (leave 1 eye width free behind the eye), tie off/trim






    rib body, tie off/trim

    Just a tourist passing through

    Part 2

    prep mallard flank, measure (tips a bit past the tail), twist between thumb/forefinger to streamline, tie in/trim












    tie in hackle (I used the butt end of a saddle feather) by tip




    wrap hackle, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

    Nice tie, Scott. Very similar to the Stayner Ducktail, which is the most effective "minnow-type" fly I have ever used, by far. And that includes both warm and cold water fish. Add a bead to it and it has a jigging action. I like the addition of the soft hackle.

    I agree with Joe. I does remind me of a Stayner Ducktail. Looks good!

    Another nice tie. It seems to me that your tying has been consistently excellent of late. I would sometimes see flaws in your earliest tutorials but not often any more.
    I can think of few acts more selfish than refusing a vaccination.
