Friday we wandered up to Clearlake for JUST a snoop. So only one rod each and no "supplies" were packed. Wellllll...some very nice crappie and redears were active. That was it. Had to stay! So, rented a cabin for Fri night and New Year's Eve.
The crappie were generally 11"-13" and the RE's were over 8" to 10" or so. A sly-line and a small baitfish immi worked quite well, though, I'm sure a dark bugger or nymph drug deeper would have done better for the RE's as the kids were really hauling them with worms on the bottom.
Fri pm water was like glass. Sat am surprised us with whitecaps and south wind right at the docks. Didn't have to release your fish.....just lay them at your feet and let the waves wash them away. Sat pm brought calm water back and nice fishing and NYE.
Sun. am found only two of us teetotalers on the dock for a grand, calm am bite. Grand start to 2017!
Gosh, they sure are fun on a 3wt LL set up. Like Rick says, "some fillets to pass around" or something like that.
Happy New Year ALL!
