Mel, apparently, is a fan of alliteration. Stripped peacock herl used for the body here, but lots of other options are available - stripped hackle quill, biot, thread, etc.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - woodduck flank fibers
body - peacock herl (stripped)
thorax - peacock herl
wing - Congo Hair white
hackle - grizzly (oversize by 1)


Part 1

mash barb; start thread at 3/4 mark




tie a clump of CH on top of shank, secure with crossing wraps; pull up and post






tie in hackle (shiny side out)




wrap to bend, tie in stripped herl




wrap herl; tie off at base of wing, coat with Sally




prep woodduck flank (trim out center so you have one fiber on each side)




flip over and tie on underside with fibers curving down (up)
