Chris Williams' semi-Hacklestacker with a PFD. Tied here as in generic shades of grey; change color/size to suit your needs.

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
    thread - Danville 6/0 grey
    tail - hackle fibers grizzly
    abdomen - goose quill natural
    shellback - 1mm foam grey
    indicator - Mcflyfoam hot orange
    hackle - grizzly
    thorax - dubbing grey

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread; wrap to point above barb and create a thread bump

measure (shank length) some grizzly fibers; tie in, jam against the bump to set tail angle

tie in moistened biot, notch side down for ribbed effect; wrap biot to 2/3 mark; tie off/trim

    tie in yarn

tie in foam strip (1/2 gap width)

    tie in hackle

    Part 2

clip foam/yarn with hackle pliers and hang on gallows ( makes it easier to wrap hackle if they're under some tension)

    take a few turns up

then return to the base; tie off/trim

    dub thread/dub thorax

    pull foam forward; tie down

    Part 3

    trim foam/yarn

trim out hackle in the back (optional) for a sparser, spinner-like appearance

Very nice tie and pattern, Scott. Is this from Chris Williams of ID or another? Had not see this particular variant before, but I know I've seen the foam-as-a-post somewhere else, just cannot remember where. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks all. John, that is the Chris Williams from Boise; he ties some very nice flies.

I've been meaning to try and find a hi-vis material to use for parachute posts. Why didn't I think of using egg yarn? I've got orange and chartreuse. Thank you, Scott!
