first thing i look at is the sun. trout hate sun. they will look for broken water or undercuts.
next I look at the banking of the stream banks. the banking upstream tells me where the
deeper cut will be and secondary cuts from raging water.

the feed lanes are important too.

there are two good lays.....the bottom drop at the end of the banking and behind
belly flop secondary hole behind the small piece of land jutting out at the end of the
bank.

a belly flop is where the big floods in spring jump over that little peninsula and cut a deep or deepest
secondary hole.
