Thread: The Major Pitcher, a classic wet fly

Default The Major Pitcher, a classic wet fly

Finally got my fly tying bench setup at the new place. This is a pattern I saw on an old issue of Fly Tyer that I always wanted to try tying. The original is a wet fly, tied on a shorter shank hook like the Mustad 3906B, for the fly below I used a size 6 Mustad salmon hook:

    Hook: Mustad, salmon, size 6
Thread: white, to tie most of the fly; black to finish the head
    Tag: oval gold tinsel, small
    Tail: woodduck fibers
Body: back half, yellow floss; front half, red floss
    Body Hackle: furnace hen
    Throat: furnace hen
Wing: white goose quill with a thin strip of blue qu

I like to tie my throats as a collar and then pull them down, to me, it looks better.
