YOU'RE THE BEST FISHERMAN HERE MR. TAYLOR

For several years our local TU Chapter took part in an activity of the Kiwanis Club which consisted of bringing inner city kids to a facility that contained a spring fed five-acre pond. The day before it was liberally stocked with rainbow trout with some of better than average size.

All parties reported to a nice little park across the road from the facility to sign up all the kids so that several Kiwanis members' wives' could pre-print up certificates with the kids name on them to give out after the luncheon they also provided when the fishing was over.

The kids also had to attend a quick five-minute lecture on safety near the water, instructions on being careful with hooks and what was going to happen after they walked down to the pond to fish.

Every June here in Mountain Home Ar we have a kids ( under 16) fishing derby, and today we have an outdoor adventure.
Fishing, bow & arrow, BB gun, and a host of other things to interest the kids, too much games on I phones, they need to get outdoors.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Finished up a "Youth Shoot" at our local gun club range a couple of months ago and about to do a "Women On Target" (WOT) event this coming Saturday. It includes .22 pistols, .22 rifles. AR-15's and shotguns along with safety instructions and how to load all the firearms while waiting to get on the line to shoot. At the last kids event we had a professional trapper set up to talk to the kids and explain what that is all about; had a high school history teacher that is also a reenactor with full set of "buckskins and all the gear that goes with it including a Kentucky Long Rifle that he shot and had a couple of Conservation Police Officers in Virginia (formerly referred to as Game Wardens) there too to explain their duties and answer any questions about fish and game laws etc. If we all don't pass on this knowledge and abilities that will be the end of it and as krauseb says, "It'll all be about Iphones and computers and indoor activities."

    Great reading from great writing!
This was one that pulled on the heartstrings for sure.

It's a great feeling to get evidence of making a difference in people's lives.

    Thanks!
