    Default Muddler variation (pic)

I know a number of us tie and fish Muddlers in all sorts or sizes and variations.

Thought you guys might enjoy one that I tied a few years ago. I call it a High Top Muddler.

Thanks Tim. I like the way this one turned out. Usually Muddlers are not so attractive, but always great for trout fishing. -Yaf

Pats Man, thank you. Not hard to tie if you are into spinning and clipping the deer hair. If not then it'll take a little practice. The wing tied as it is almost stands up on its own.
I could have done a better trim job thats for sure. But, then again who wants a perfect fly -Yaf

    Yaf,

Nice. I may have to copy that sometime. Is the front part of the body red?

Yaffle, One of the first things I was taught was spinning Deer Hair. Like a DUMMY I did not pay too much attention. Let me tell you something. Do not ever lose your ability to do the great job you do even if like me you decide you only need to tye small dry flies. You are great and keep it that way. Love your flies. I would like to send you of a picture of I fly I designed a few weeks ago if it is ok with you. I knoe you would do better.

Jay, tks, the body is white wool 2/3, red wool 1/3.
The rest is just bleached Deer hair (head and tail), grey squirrel (under wing) and a couple of mottled cock neck feathers (wing).
I think my flies always turn out better when I keep it simple.

    Pats Man, you're very kind.
When I first started tying I read of the effectivness of two flies, The Muddler Minnow and the Goddard Caddis. I learnt to work with deer right away and for that first year fished these two patterns an aweful lot. Both are great trout catchers and I had a blast, although the flies were nothing special to down right aweful looking at first.
I'll send you an e-mail, since my address isn't posted, I would very much like to see that fly of yours. -Yaf
