Far as wet flies, The English March Brown, Male and Female are the two best patterns that has worked for me consistenly. These patterns can be found in Ray Bergman's book Trout.

    Grubb,

1)The standard dry fly pattern is:

    orange thread
    tail - dark ginger hackle
    wing - wood duck flank
body - dubbing of biege fox fur with some hare's ear cheek fur
hackle - dark ginger & grizzly

    2)Comparadun
    thread - orange
    tail - brown microfibbets
    wing - med/dark deer hair
body - dubbing of biege fox fur with some hare's ear cheek fur

    3)Comparaspinner
    thread - orange
    tail- brown microfibbets (long)
wing - grizzly (lots of it) trimmed top and bottom (sometimes guys will use an overwing of fine foam for an indicator and floatation)
body - dubbing of biege fox fur with some hare's ear cheek fur

I often fish a Quigley cripple when March Browns are coming off. I tie it with dark grey marabou and bleached coastal deer hair. A hare's ear parachute also works well in the west.

    Grubb,
They have already been hatching here in NC on warm afternoons. I tie a simple parachute and wet fly imitation that I fish off a dropper.

Parachute-I use a single light brown hackle and a turkey biot for the body. The thorax is natural hare's ear. After seeing Jim's and Tyeflies post though I may try adding a grizzly hackle?

Wet fly- Turkey biot for the body and med brown hare's ear for the thorax. The hackle is brown partridge. I tie the fly with a darker brown thorax to give the fly some contrast. Again though, after seeing the standards posted by Jim and Tye I may try a lighter thorax.

Whatcha do is, get yerself of of da bugs, and then you look at it. Then you get out yer tying stuff, and then you poke through yer tying stuff until you find the stuff that is the same color as da bug, and then you put a bunch of it together on a hook so's it looks like da bug. Then you go try dis fly and see if da fish like it. Repeat dis process until da fish like it.

    DG, reinventer of the wheel.

Seriously, this is how I tie flies to match hatches. I do have a western march brown pattern here that sorta works (hee hee) if you want to start with that. No idea what an eastern looks like.

PS. Found one on my front walk last night after work. Lost little thing.
