    Default Sportsman's Warehouse/Sportsman's Guide

    Are they the same store?

I don't believe so. Sportsman's Guide is one store in St. Paul, Minnesota, founded in 1970 by Gary Olen and the current CEO is Jay Berlin (Wikipedia).

Sportsman's Warehouse is all over and has a checkered past, business wise, but seems to be doing very well now, with stores all over.

Not the same at all, the warehouse went through bankruptcy 10 years or so ago, got too big too fast. Sold off a bunch of stores, reorganized and has been going great (as far as I know) ever since.

Sportsman's Guide also has a catalog, I get it. Sportsman's Warehouse doesn't have that I believe. Also the warehouse is opening a store here in Rock Springs in about a month

Sportsman's Warehouse went through chapter 11 around 2009. They sold a bunch of their stores to Wholesale Sports, a Canadian company. After coming out of chapter 11 they ended up buying back some of the stores and they appear to be doing well now.

Sportsman's Guide is mainly an online/catalog operation.

I've bought from both and I haven't had any problems.

When I lived in Utah, I used to go to a store (Perhaps Sportsman's Warehouse). I believe it was in either South Ogden or Roy City.

Anyway, I became acquainted with a fellow by the name of Dave Scadden. He worked in the fly fishing department. He built a couple rods for me.

I understand he may have been involved with the company when it expanded? Then, I heard he was representing his brand of the "fishing float tube" (whatever their correct name is). I have only used one of those once and didn't do well. Not his brand, but a personal floating chair/tube............

Anyone else know Dave and whether or not he was one of the leaders of the company at one time?

    Byron,

Dave Scadden is the owner of Scadden Pontoon Boats and he is now into stand up paddle boards as well. He sells a lot of inflatables up here in the northwest. A number of my club members own them and they like the crafts. I do not know his previous employment/ownership history.
