I took a friend from the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers out to sight-fish snook in the surf. He had been a few times, but had never even seen a snook in the surf -- let along caught one.
We drove to a beach south of Sarasota, but the waves were crashing too much and stirring the surf up. Visibility was poor. We decided to a try another beach to the north.
Conditions were much better there, and we saw a good number of snook, including some big girls 15 pounds and up. He didn't catch any of the big ones, but he did land a small snook and had several others grab his fly.

The action will only get better as the water warms up. Best action usually takes place in July and August. It's all sight-fishing.
