    Default I need some help.

I am very new to flytying and have a question. Is there a hook chart that would compare regular bait fishing hooks to streamer hooks etc? I am trying to save some money because of being on a fixed income due to disability. Thanks.

A fly can be tied on any hook. However, some hooks are made heavier to begin with. I have found most standard baitholder hooks to be the near equivalent of a standard Mustad 3906 Wet/Nymph hook in weight length. Not the best option for dry flies, but perfectly fine for anything you intend to sink. Just mash down the baitholder barbs and they should match up pretty close. You can use this hook for pretty much any nymph you want, and even dries that are heavily hackled, or carried by foam or deer hair.

For Streamers, your closest comparison would probably a Mustad 9672. It is a 3x long hook and similar in shank and bend to a long shank baitholder.

    Hope that helps.
