Thread: Adirondacks NY - Au Sable

Default Adirondacks NY - Au Sable

I plan to fish the Au Sable this spring or summer with my father and would like to stay for 1 or 2 nights. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay close to the Au Sable. A couple suggestions would be great, maybe one location with a package deal including a place to sleep and eat and another where we can just spend a night that is less expensive. I'm looking for someplace comfortable, I'd rather not camp so my dad won't have to sleep on the ground. Thanks

There's a bunch of hotels in and around Lake Placid. every company pretty much...

There's also the Hungry Trout, which I've never stayed at, but a friend of mine has. It has some private water right out back the hotel Hungry Trout[/url:03d0f]

I stayed at the Hilton becuase it was free but next time I will stay at the Hungry Trout because of the free acess to the private waters.

    7star,

I am pretty sure the Hungry Trouts water is on the Ausable and I've heard good things about it.

If you'd like real inexpensive place to stay there's a bunk house / dorm facility for fishermen that runs about twenty bucks a night. Contact Fran Bettors at his website.

I'm from the area and my vote goes to the Hungry Trout. They even have a fly shop on premises and guide services if needed. Cascade Inn comes to mind as well. Check for cottages in Wilmington NY - that's where the AuSable is. Stay away from Lake Placid - expensive and snooty. Good folks in Wilmington.

my wife and i have stayed at the hungry trout a couple of times and we are going back again in september. they have what they call the miracle mile of private water and when we were talking to them at the sommerset show in january they said the water behind their property is going to be catch and release. the restaraunt is great and the owners are the best. you can get a list and prices of their package plans at www.hungrytrout.com[/url:2bc81]

try it you will like it

I've never stayed at the hungry trout, but let me say that I have never heard any negative feedback about the hunry trout. The bunkhouse run by Fran bettors is no thrills. Felts and wading sticks are in order as the rocks and boulders are very slick.

Another vote for the Hungry Trout. The accomodations serve the purpose and they don't cost too much. The restaurant is surprisingly good.
