    Default Hooked on Mop Flies

Ever since Uncle Jesse posted the link to the video on tying Mop flies, I've been facinated with them. I located the mop-head material in a number of "fishy-looking" colors and started tying. I like patterns that are simple to tie and produce fish. I guess you could say that I am a utilitarian tyer in that respect. Anyway, this pattern is super easy to tie and offers lots of opportunity to get a bit creative. Here are some of the Mop flies I've tied up for this year.

I used dubbing brushes for some of them to achieve a bushier effect. The black ones should be especially effective in the waters I fish followed by the beigh and the light olive. hope to get out this week and I'll let you know how they work out.

The problem is going to be figuring out which to start with. Those look really good Jim.

I got the mop "bug" too. But so far, I've just invested in tan / beige. Tied the mop piece to a #12 jig hook with a bead. Some with a simple orange thread hot spot and some with a simple soft hackle collar. Ive fished them a couple times and they have produced pretty well on our trout streams. I suspect they're taken as crane fly larva.
