I bought some saltwater tackle where the guides were damaged. I am replacing them but have problems with rough surfaces on the blanks from epoxy. How do you remove epoxy to get a smooth blank to wrap on? I am a rooky at this!
Try to soften it with a hair dryer and then pick it off with your fingernail. Don't use anything sharp or you will damage the blank. It's tedious work but it is possible.
If you can soften it then use acetone to wipe it clean (?)
I would not use acetone, for fear of removing the finish on the rod blank. Rubbing alcohol is fine. If your fingernails can't handle it, you can (very carefully) use the blunt side of a knife to push at the epoxy chips.

Warm with a hair dryer and then use the edge of an old credit card to remove the softened finish. just go slow and easy. Remember your not in a race.

And ... the epoxy won't stay malleable the entire removal time with one application of heat. You will need to use the hairdryer more than once. Mantra: GO SLOW!
