I have one two piece rod, one three piece rod, and a bunch of four piece rods. Most of the newer rods that I own are four piece because that is the only configuration that was available for the rods. Many rod models have been only available only in four piece rods for quite a few years. If you want to buy a new or newer fly rod, your selection is pretty limited if you want a two piece rod. I like my older two piece and three piece rods, but I like most of my newer four piece rods more because they are lighter and cast better than the older two piece rods that I have sold on EBay.

Travel considerations for fly rods encompasses more than flying to fishing destinations. It is much easier to pack and transport a dissembled four piece rod on a canoe portage or in a small car than a two piece rod. I can afford the extra time that it takes to assemble a four piece rod.
